Sports betting is legal in a number of states across the United States.

Arkansas became the ninth state in the United States to legalize and regulate sports betting in the month of July 2019. Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort, located in Hot Springs, Arkansas, is currently accepting wagers.

Colorado

The state of Colorado began accepting wagers on sporting events in the month of May 2020. Despite the fact that there are currently four different operators in this market, they have decided to pursue the option of mobile sports betting. They will eventually have retail sportsbooks, but it will be difficult for them to get started while the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing.

Delaware

Although Delaware technically had permission to bet on sports prior to the repeal of PASPA, the state moved quickly after the repeal of PASPA to begin offering sports betting at three casinos. The state will also start offering mobile betting in the near future.

Illinois

The start of a pandemic one week after the state launched its retail sportsbooks caused Illinois to have a rocky start as the 15th state to legalize sports betting. As a result, Illinois had a difficult beginning to its history. The first wagers were placed in March 2020 at the Rivers Casino. Only a few days later, a large portion of the United States was quarantined as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Indiana

This unexpected turn of events occurred in September 2019, when Indiana became the newest state to legalize and regulate sports betting. You can place bets with them both in-store at any of their designated retail locations and online via your mobile device.

Iowa

August 2019 marked the month in which the state of Iowa became the first in the United States to legalize sports betting. The state intends to provide betting options at both retail locations and through mobile devices. The only catch is that in order to open an account for mobile betting, you must first visit a retail location where the service is available.

Michigan

Michigan became the 16th state to legalize sports betting on March 11, 2020, quickly following in the footsteps of Illinois, which was the previous state to do so. Illinois was the first state to legalize sports betting. They also had bad timing, as the pandemic was moving towards the United States at the same time, forcing all retail sportsbooks to close. The mobile version of their product will not be available until at least 2021.

Mississippi

Mississippi was another state that surprised everyone by being one of the first to legalize and regulate sports betting, and it did so relatively quickly. They began accepting bets on sporting events in August 2018, just three months after the Supreme Court ruled that PASPA was unconstitutional. There are currently no plans to implement mobile sports betting in the near future, and the state's only casinos that accept wagers on sporting events are traditional land-based casinos.

Montana

In the midst of the pandemic, the state of Montana's sports betting product, which had been in development, was launched in March 2020. You can place a bet at any of the Sports Bet Montana kiosks located in licensed retailers throughout the state.

Nevada

Despite the fact that the repeal of PASPA had no effect on Nevada or Las Vegas, both of these jurisdictions have made improvements to their sportsbooks and online gambling options over the last two years.

New Hampshire is a state in the United States

Wagering on sporting events became legal in New Hampshire in July 2019 and began shortly before the start of the new year. They are currently the state's only mobile operator, and they offer mobile betting through partnerships with a variety of different sportsbooks. They are currently the only mobile operator in the state.

The entirety of the state of New Jersey

Given that it was the state that spearheaded the effort to repeal PASPA and was the leader in that effort, it stands to reason that New Jersey would be the first state in the country to legalize sports betting in June of 2018. In addition to traditional sportsbooks in physical locations, they also provide betting options via mobile devices. Many New Yorkers would have to travel all the way across the bridge to place a wager.

NM (New Mexico)

In August of 2018, New Mexico became the first state in the country to pass legislation authorizing sports betting. New Mexico was the sixth state to pass legislation allowing casinos to accept wagers on sporting events. There are currently no concrete plans in place to provide an online betting option.

The Center of Our Attention

After the New York State Gaming Commission took their time developing sports betting laws and rules, clearly delaying the launch, the state of New York ultimately decided to legalize sports betting in June of 2019. This decision was made in light of the obvious delay in the launch. At the moment, the only way to place a wager is to do so in person at one of the world's casinos.

North Carolina is a US state (US state)

Despite the fact that North Carolina legalized sports betting in July 2019, wagering on sporting events is still limited to the state's two tribal casinos that hold valid state licenses.

Oregon

A sportsbook was made available at Chinook Winds Casino in August 2019 as part of the state of Oregon's new product for wagering on sporting events. Mobile betting was only made available on the state lottery's online sportsbook for the first time in October of 2019.

Pennsylvania

The state of Pennsylvania began accepting bets on sporting events in August 2018, not long after the Supreme Court's decision to overturn PASPA. Their mobile betting platform was launched in June of this year, and they have a large number of retail sportsbooks located throughout the state.

Providence, Rhode Island

Following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), our state with the fewest residents was among the first to accept wagers on sporting events in August of 2018. They moved quickly to include mobile betting as a component of their offering in September of 2019.

Tennessee

In May 2019, the state of Tennessee passed legislation making sports betting legal. Betting on sporting events is expected to begin in September 2020, with licenses for sportsbooks issued in July of that year.

Virginia

The sports betting season began in January 2021; however, bettors are not permitted to place wagers on collegiate sports played in the state of Virginia. After the necessary legislation to legalize sports betting in the Commonwealth was finally approved in August of 2020, sports betting became legal at that time.

West Virginia (WV)

West Virginia's state legislature passed legislation legalizing sports betting in the state in August of 2018. Only a few months later, in November 2018, they expanded their betting options to include online wagering via the a few top betting apps.

Which states in the United States have the lowest chance of passing legislation to legalize sports betting?

Although we believe that many states will pass legislation to legalize sports betting, we also believe that some states will continue to oppose legalization indefinitely. Although we believe that many states will pass legislation to legalize sports betting, we also believe that a few states will continue to oppose it. The state with the highest level of certainty that marijuana will never be legalized is Utah, which has a sizable Mormon population as well as a reputation for having strict legal standards.
Outlying states such as Hawaii and Alaska are unlikely to legalize either form of gambling because neither is part of the continental United States and both have such large financial interests in tourism revenue that they will not seek sports betting tax revenue.
South Dakota, Wisconsin, Texas, Alabama, Arizona, Nebraska, and Wyoming are some of the other states we believe are leaning toward either not legalizing or delaying legalization for an extended period of time. We believe this because these states have a history of either not legalizing or delaying legalization for an extended period of time.
